Chicago Style with City of Chicago Treasurer Kurt Summers

Join the IOP and Chicago Style in an off-the-record conversation with Chicago City Treasurer Kurt Summers about holding an elected office and his contributions to addressing the fiscal challenges facing the city. As Treasurer, Summers manages a $7 billion investment portfolio and serves as a trustee for five of the City's public employee pension funds with $25 billion under management. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and Harvard Business School, Treasurer Summers has held office since December 1st, 2014. This event is part of the student-run "Chicago Style" series, in which the Institute of Politics invites a prominent elected official, policymaker, political operative, journalist, lobbyist or organizer to our historic home on South Woodlawn for an informal conversation about their life in politics and the issues of importance to them today. The format is simple: Our invited speaker begins the conversation with 10 to 15 minutes of remarks—and then opens the floor to questions. The goal is to give students a rare, inside glimpse into the political process and the lives of people in public service. The conversations are always accompanied by a delicious meal from a Chicago restaurant.
