Summer Internship Stipends

The IOP’s Summer Stipend Program offers students the opportunity to apply for a stipend of up to $2,500 to support an unpaid or underfunded summer internship in a wide variety of politics and public service related fields.

How do I apply for a stipend?

Applications for the summer 2023 internship season have closed. Applications will open again in spring 2024 for summer 2024 opportunities.

Am I eligible for a stipend?

Please note that the available funds from the IOP for a summer stipend are up to $2,500 per student. In addition, if a student already has funding from an internship employer or another organization, the IOP can fund a student's internship up to $2,500 provided that the total amount of funding received by the student from all sources does not exceed $5,000. Please also note that the university's 501(c)(3) tax status prohibits the IOP from funding students working directly on a candidate's campaign.

When are stipend applications due?

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications are collected throughout the spring quarter in preparation for the upcoming summer. Internship stipends are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage early applications.
